INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indianapolis Colts fans noticed Jordan Todman’s return skills against Green Bay last week.

The NFL noticed, too.

The league named Todman the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 9. It’s the first time Todman has won the award in his career.

Against Green Bay, Todman had two returns for 160 yards. He returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, giving the Colts an early boost in a road game in which they were underdogs.

“It was a great moment,’’ Todman said of the return, which was aided by a great lead block from rookie Josh Ferguson. “It happened so fast. The play is over before it starts, but it was great.

“It just felt great to start the game off and starting fast and we went out there and did what we wanted to do.”

Todman’s kickoff return TD was the team’s first since Dejji Karim took a kick back 101 yards against the Houston Texans in December 2012. It was the team’s first return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff since Aaron Bailey did it against Jacksonville in December 1995.

Todman added a 61-yard return in the second quarter that set up another score. His 80.0 kickoff return average is a Colts single-game record (minimum two returns). Bailey held the previous record with a 66.0 average in the previously mentioned Jacksonville game.

Todman is the second Colts player to earn Special Teams Player of the Week this season; Adam Vinatieri earned the honor for Week 5. Vinatieri was later named Special Teams Player of the Month for October.
