New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has, without a doubt, had an incredible career. He’s won four Super Bowls and will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.

But many fans can’t discount some scandals surrounding Brady and his team—things like Spygate and Deflategate. Brady missed the first four games of this season after the league suspended him in connection with the Deflategate case.

Even though he missed four games, Brady is putting together an MVP-caliber season, with many NFL observers considering him a favorite to win the award.

Former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver isn’t among them, however. Wayne, who’s now working as an analyst for the NFL Network, said last week that there’s “no way Tom Brady can win MVP because he was caught cheating this year.”

Wayne’s comments caught a lot of flak, especially from New England Patriots fans, who quickly hit back on Twitter. Some suggested Wayne “quit” football after a brief stint with the Patriots last season because the playbook was “too hard.”

Wayne had a few things to say on Twitter in response:

Brady responded to Wayne’s comments this week on WEEI’s Kirk & Callahan Show, taking the high road and saying he liked Wayne as a person and player.

“I don’t know what Reggie said or anything, but I liked being with Reggie,” Brady said on the radio show. “I actually had a lot of great conversations with him. Played against him for a long time; he’s a Hall of Famer. I always wish Reggie the best. He was a great player.”

Wayne played for the Colts, of course, and endured a bitter rivalry with New England during the Peyton Manning era. Brady said he liked having Wayne on the team.

“Well, I still think he’s a great player, and it doesn’t change the experience I had with him when he was here,” he said.

Brady also said he tries not to think too much about the negative things people say about him.

“You know, I think there’s been a lot of people who have said a lot of things over the years that I disagree with,” he said. “I try and get up every day and do the best that I can do. … You give everyone else your power when you start reacting to everything that they say.”
