Three central Indiana school districts pass tax levy referendums

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Voters in three Indiana counties passed school tax levy referendums Tuesday night.

In Marion County, voters approved the MSD Washington Township tax levy to maintain teachers and programs.

Here’s how it was worded on the ballot:

For the 7 calendar years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall MSD of Washington Township impose a property tax rate that does not exceed $0.11 on each $100 of assessed valuation and that is in addition to all other property taxes imposed by the school corporation for the purpose of maintaining academic staff and programs and funding the operating costs of new school facilities?

In Monroe County, voters approved a $7.3 million referendum that essentially extends a similar tax hike from 2010, which was set to run out.

Here’s how it was worded on the ballot:

For the 6 calendar years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall the Monroe County Community School Corporation continue to impose a property tax rate that does not exceed $0.1150 on each $100 of assessed valuation and for the purpose of funding teachers, resources and education programs? The tax rate requested in this referendum was originally approved by the voters in the Monroe County Community School Corporation in 2010.

In Hamilton County, voters said yes to the Westfield Washington Schools tax levy, which is also an extension of a previous property tax rate from 2010.

Here’s how it was worded on the ballot:

For the 7 calendar years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall Westfield Washington Schools continue to impose a property tax rate that does not exceed $0.20 on each $100 of assessed valuation for the purpose of funding academic and educationally related programs at current levels and to manage class sizes? The tax rate requested in this referendum was originally approved by the voters in the Westfield Washington Schools in 2010.
