INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A 34-year-old woman is dead after a fatal hit-and-run on the east side of Indianapolis Sunday morning.

Police were called to the area of 10th and Hartman, east of Shadeland Avenue, just before 3 a.m. on a report of a body lying beside the road. Responding officers located an unresponsive woman, later identified as Cherry Velasquez, lying on the ground. EMS personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

It was later determined the woman was a victim in a hit-and-run accident. There are no suspects at this time and no witnesses to the actual event.

The hit-and-run marks Indy’s second in just six hours, following a different hit-and-run that occurred Saturday around 9 p.m. near Lafayette Road and West 56th Street.

The two fatal hit-and-run accidents have some parents in Indianapolis saying they will take extra precautions while trick-or-treating Monday night.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317)262-TIPS(8477). Information given via Crime Stoppers should be considered anonymous.
