INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indianapolis Public Schools Officers seized a gun from a student after the student brought it to school.

Parents at Jonathan Jennings Elementary School received a letter from Principal Kevin McMahan on Monday afternoon about the incident.

According to McMahan, a student brought the weapon to school with the intent of showing it to friends. When the teacher realized what was going on, the teacher took the class to the cafeteria and notified the administration. IPS police responded, and according to McMahan there was very minimal disruption.

“Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about the importance of safety and what to do if they are ever involved in a situation in or out of school involving a dangerous item,” McMahan wrote.

IPS released a statement about the incident saying no other students saw the weapon and all families were notified about the incident the same day.
