MARKLEVILLE, Ind. – A couple in Markleville, Indiana believes their daughter may have helped the Chicago Cubs make it to the World Series.

Before their daughter was born, Hailey and Jay Leibovitz planned to name her “Rizzo Hayley Leibovitz” after the Cubs first baseman, Anthony Rizzo. Coincidentally, the little girl was born on the team’s opening day, even though her due date was set for a month later.

Rizzo’s birth and opening day also landed on April 4 or 4-4. Anthony Rizzo’s number is also 44. The Markleville couple says their 7-year-old son also wears number 44 on all of his sports jerseys.

“About mid-pregnancy, we thought, Rizzo sounds kinda neat and then we went with it and she was actually born a month early,” said the girl’s father, Jay. “She’s reversing the curse,” he added.

The Cubs won the opening game against the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim and the Leibovitz believe Rizzo has been a good luck charm ever since. Saturday’s win over the Los Angeles Dodgers solidified the Cubs’ spot in this year’s World Series. The team hasn’t been in the series since 1945 and they haven’t won since 1908.
