Driver strikes near northwest side bus stop, killing 2 men, leaving 1 critically injured
INDIANAPOLIS – Two men have died and another is in critical condition after a vehicle struck the IndyGo bus stop shelter they were sitting in early Sunday morning.
Police were dispatched to the scene near the intersection of 29th St. and Martin Luther King Blvd. around 3:25 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the three pedestrians lying on the ground.
The driver told police he was traveling south on MLK, approaching 29th St. when a vehivle traveling east on 29th ran the light at MLK, forcing the driver off the road and into the bus stop.
All three pedestrians were critically injured and transported to area hospitals. One of the victims, Marvin Kinchlow, 61, succumbed to his injuries and died at Eskenazi. A second victim, Eugene Guzman, 59, died later in the day. The third victim remains in critical condition.
Police say alcohol did not seem to be a factor in the crash.
