Man arrested after officers find kilo of heroin during traffic stop in Tippecanoe County

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. – A man was arrested Friday after police say they found one kilo of heroin during a traffic stop on southbound I-65 in Tippecanoe County.

A trooper stopped a 2008 Dodge Magnum around 11:45 a.m. near the State Road 43 exit for reportedly following too close.

Police say the trooper observed indicators of criminal activity when he approached the vehicle. The passenger, Lamont E Outlay, 30 of Dolton, IL was removed and during an officer safety pat down, a kilo of heroin was found.

Outlay was transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail on preliminary charges of dealing a schedule 1 substance, possession of a schedule 1 substance and visiting a common nuisance.

Police say the suspected value of the heroin is around $50,000.
