CLAY COUNTY, Ind. – All westbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed near State Road 59 due to a vehicle fire Saturday. Drivers were advised to seek alternative routes.

The fire was the result of a crash near mile marker 19 in Clay County, which is just west of the Brazil exit.

Indiana State Police say all westbound lanes of the interstate were closed until around 5:35 p.m., when a passing lane was opened.

Police say traffic was slowing in the area of the crash around 2 p.m., when one truck failed to slow down. The driver of that truck applied the brakes at the last moment, then jackknifed and struck one semi, which struck a third semi.

The smoke from the crash could be seen from downtown Terre Haute, according to WTHI.

There were no fatalities in the crash, but police say the driver of the truck who originally failed to slow down was sent to an area hospital to be treated for lacerations to their head, face and back.

INDOT was called to the scene to investigate whether the pavement had been damaged.
