INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indianapolis Metropolitan police said a person died after a two-vehicle crash on the city’s northwest side early Monday morning.
The crash happened just before 6 a.m. in the 8900 block of West 56th Street east of Raceway Road near Eagle Creek Reservoir. Police had to close the road for several hours.

Fire personnel removed both drivers from their vehicles; both were in critical condition. One went to IU Health Methodist Hospital and died from her injuries. The other went to St. Vincent Hospital and was later upgraded to serious condition, police said.
Investigators believe a blue Kia was going east on W. 56th Street when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a silver Ford going the other way. Both drivers were trapped inside their cars for several minutes.
Police haven’t determined what led to the crash, but they didn’t find any visible signs of impairment. The surviving driver will undergo a blood draw to check for intoxicants, police said.
The road reopened around 9:30 a.m. after the scene was cleaned up.
