Indy woman turns 107 years old on Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– An Indianapolis woman is turning 107 years old Saturday!

Carrie Lee Graggs was born in 1909, the same year the first Abraham Lincoln penny was issued, the NAACP was organized and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway opened.

She moved to Indy in 1942 with her uncle Fletcher Davis from Almon, Georgia. She didn’t have any biological children, but did become “mom” to many in the Concord Village area of Haughville.

She joined church at an early age. In Indianapolis, she became an active member of Bethany Temple where she was chairwoman of the church Missionary Board. She continues to go on North Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation outings, including to dinner and the movies.

A party was held for her birthday celebration on Friday.

So, what’s her secret to a long life?  Have faith and believe in God.  She says that is what has sustained her.

Happy birthday, Carrie!
