INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Metro police are investigating after their headquarters came under fire for the second time in less than two weeks.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at the North District headquarters located at 3120 East 30th Street, between North Keystone Avenue and North Sherman Drive.

Two officers were inside the building completing reports at the time of the shooting. No one was injured.

IMPD Chief Riggs said at a press conference on Friday that they do not have a suspect description, and they are still processing evidence and still trying to process some leads.

“We have a group of individuals representing law enforcement throughout Indiana including state and federal law enforcement, and we are going to be talking about our operational plans for the future how we are going to work to protect not only our officers but also the citizens of this great city and central Indiana as well,” said Riggs.

U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler says he will make sure IMPD has all the resources they need to investigate the case. “I have pledged all resources necessary to support this investigation. Any legal resource for this investigation will be provided by federal law enforcement agencies upon request,” said Minkler.

Riggs said they believe the two shooting incidents are connected, and he stressed the importance of tracking down that individual.

“Yes we believe these shootings are related. And yes, we believe there is a great propensity these shooters will try to attack another police station,” said Riggs. “We believe this individual is very violent. This individual has a hatred towards police and on others in our community, and we want to be focused on that.”

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett was also at the press conference, and he said the people responsible for firing shots at headquarters do not deserve the honor of living in a city protected by IMPD.

“We will find you. You will be arrested. And you will be held full responsible for these heinous acts,” said Hogsett.
