Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri has been on point all season–and the NFL recognized it this week.

The league named Vinatieri AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 5. This is the 16th time he has earned the honor in his career, the most by any player in the NFL.

Vinatieri was critical in the team’s Week 5 win against the Chicago Bears. The Colts won 29-23 on the strength of Vinatieri’s five field goals. He connected from 54, 53, 46, 41 and 26 yards, tying his single-game career high. He added two PATs, making him responsible for 17 of the Colts’ 29 points against Chicago. The 17 points tied a single-game career high.

As if that’s not impressive enough, he’s converted nine consecutive field goals from 50-plus yards–a franchise record.

Vinatieri is the first Colts player to earn an AFC Player of the Week honor this season. Last year, he was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for  November.
