Gunman robs two women, forces them drive to ATMs

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Linda Patrick and a co-worker were leaving their office shortly before 9 p.m. near West 86th Street and Michigan Road Friday, when they were accosted in the parking lot by a man with a gun.

“He told us to get in to the car, not to be heroes, he did not want sex, he just wanted money,” said Patrick.

The women were forced to drive at gunpoint to a nearby branch of Indiana Teachers Credit Union.

“He kept making remarks about I was a nurse, I made six figures, he was gonna get all that money. That’s all he cared about,” said Patrick, still shaken days after the robbery. “He had the gun on the back of my head and said, ‘I’m gonna make sure you give me all that money and I mean every penny of it because if you don’t I guess you’re friend’s life won’t mean anything either.’”

The first ATM Patrick approached was down, and there was another customer at a neighboring bank branch, so the robber told her to head westbound on 86th Street to the Trader’s Point shopping area where $500 was withdraw from another automated teller machine.

“He kept hitting the back of the seat and my head with the gun,” said Patrick.

Then, the man instructed Patrick to drive southbound on I-465 toward Highway 36, all the while arguing on the phone with a partner who missed the drop off point on the north side.

“We were driving 95 miles an hour on the interstate in between traffic,” said Patrick. “Of course we thought we were going to die because there’s nothing around there.”

Finally, Patrick was allowed to pull off onto a side street where her robber issued a warning before his escape.

“’When I shut your car door, I’m gonna tell you right now, you need to floor the car as fast as you can if you want to live,’” Patrick recalled the gunman saying.

IMPD detectives are currently gathering surveillance video photographs to determine if the robber can be identified.
