FRANKFORT, Ind. – A Marion woman known for her fearlessness and can-do nature celebrated her 95th birthday in the clouds Saturday.
Bettie Butler skydived with three of her grandchildren and her niece at Skydive Indianapolis.
Forty of Bettie’s friends and family members even came to watch, support and cheer her on as she descended the 13,000 feet. After she returned to solid ground, everyone gathered in the hanger to sing her "Happy Birthday."
This wasn’t the first high-flying celebration for Bettie. She also celebrated her 80th birthday by going up in a hot air balloon.
Bettie says she has wanted to skydive for years. When she saw President George Bush do it, she thought “I could do that, too.”
“I told her she needed to get on with it. She's not getting any younger,” said Bettie’s son, John.
Skydiving seems to have reaffirmed what Bettie’s grandchildren have known all along.
“She’s amazing. She's so bad a**,” said her grandson, Sam Shuver.
"It was amazing. Mom had a fantastic time. All of her family, her friends, she loves it. Maybe she'll skydive again on her 100th!" said John.
