Red Cross seeking volunteers in Indiana to assist those affected by Hurricane Matthew
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers as they help people who are affected by Hurricane Matthew.
So far, 21 Hoosiers have been deployed to Florida and South Carolina to help.
If you’re interested in volunteering, you can do so in several ways.
A Volunteer Intake Center has been opened in Indianapolis a the Red Cross Regional Headquarters, located at 1510 North Meridian Street. You can get trained immediately and be deployed to an affected area.
If you do not reside close to Indianapolis, you can call 317-684-1441, and a member of the deployment team will refer you to the closest volunteer training site.
Indianapolis volunteer training hours are Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Financial donations can be made on their website, over the phone at 1-800-RED CROSS, or by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
According to the Red Cross, the storm canceled dozens of blood drives, resulting in more than 1,300 blood donations going uncollected. Appointments for blood donation can be made by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting this site or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
