INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- For the next month portions of I-65 through downtown Indy will be shut down as INDOT continues bridge repair work.
The off and on closures could cause serious delays for drivers.
However, all of the road work associated with this phase of the project will happen overnight (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.)
If you use I-65 to travel through downtown during those hours, INDOT suggests using I-465 to get around the closures.
Previously, crews worked on the underside of the bridges.
INDOT’s new focus in on the bridge decks.
Contractors will seal the joints between the bridges and repave the surface.
Work on this phase of the project should be complete by the end of October, but there is the possibility of delay.
“Every night of rain is likely to delay the project by one day, but overall 20 nights of closure and we anticipate having this completed before the end of this year,” said Nathan Riggs, a spokesperson for INDOT.
On Monday, October 3, and Tuesday, October 4, the northbound I-65 Exit 113 ramps to and from Meridian and Pennsylvania Streets will be affected.
All northbound lanes of I-65 between Senate Avenue and Alabama Street will be shut down from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, and Thursday, October 6.
INDOT will announce closures for the southbound lanes, once the northbound work is complete.
