Man faces charges in connection with crash; missing Seymour woman found dead in vehicle after 3 days
JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. — A man is facing charges after police say he lied about a single-vehicle crash that killed a missing woman in southeast Indiana.
The driver of the SUV, 39-year-old Kevin Bell, faces charges of driving while suspended, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, failure to report a dead body and false informing.
Investigators say Bell went off the road and crashed on Sept. 17. The SUV went down an embankment and hit a tree head-on.
Three days later, Bell, who suffered injuries to his leg, left the car that wasn’t visible from the road. A passerby on US 50 found him.
When police arrived to the scene, they spoke with Bell. Police say that’s when he lied about how he sustained his injuries and did not initially tell officers that he had been in a crash or that Nikki Reed, 37, was deceased in the vehicle.
Reed’s family reported her missing on Sept. 18. Police spent days searching for her before she was found dead from injuries sustained in the crash.
Earlier this week, the investigation was turned over to the Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office for review. As a result, a warrant was issued for Bell.
No foul play is suspected in the death of Reed.
