Off the track at IMS: Crews prepare for two big events

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Crews are getting ready for a race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but it’s not on the track.

The Red Bull Air Race is happening at IMS this weekend. You can watch master class pilots as they navigate around an aerial race track in the sky.

On Tuesday, crews started assembling the planes at the Indianapolis International Airport. The Red Bull Air Race World Championship as a whole involves eight separate racing events across four different continents, but this is the first time one of the air races will be taking place at IMS.

“We’re finally lucky enough to come to the motorsports center of the planet,” said event technical directorJames Reed.

Officials say the event will feature the best female golfers in the world. It’ll be held September 4th – 10th in 2017.
