New surveillance photos released in shooting of gas station clerk on west side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Police released new images Monday of a suspect accused of shooting a gas station clerk on the city’s west side.

The attempted robbery occurred around 3:45 a.m. on Sept. 23, at the Speedway gas station near West 10th Street and Girls School Road. Police say the armed suspect shot the clerk, 21-year-old Delve Smith Jr., during the incident.

The new photos appear to show the suspect smoking a cigarette while interacting with the clerk, then pointing his revolver before leaving the store.

According to police, the suspect is described as a black male, 5’9″ to 5’11” and 220 to 240 pounds with a medium build and facial hair. He was seen leaving the area in a black Chevrolet Trailblazer. IMPD said the suspect is armed and dangerous and said anyone who sees him should call 911. Police urged people not to approach the man.

Smith’s family has been active on social media and says he is still fighting to recover.
