Fishers to swear in new police chief this week

FISHERS, Ind. – Fishers will swear in a new chief of police this week.

Mitch Thompson has been with the Fishers Police Department since 1991. In 1994, Thompson was promoted to patrol sergeant. He was selected for the position of patrol commander in 1999. Four years later, he became assistant chief of police.

Thompson will be sworn in as police chief during a ceremony on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Fishers Police Department Headquarters.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and a master’s degree in administration of justice from the University of Phoenix. He is a graduate of the 202nd class of the FBI National Academy. In addition he attended the FBI LEEDS (Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar) Course in 2005, and in 2014, served as the FBI National Academy Associates President for the Indiana Chapter. Thompson is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership Academy.

Thompson has lived in Fishers since 1991. He has two children; both graduated from Hamilton Southeastern High School and are currently in college.
