Man carjacks SUV with elderly woman in backseat

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A man was apprehended Sunday night after police say he carjacked a Honda CRV with an elderly woman in the backseat.

Police say it happened at a Rickers Gas station in Anderson.

Police in Madison County attempted to follow the vehicle headed southbound on I-69, but lost sight of it.

A Fishers police officer was able to spot the vehicle heading southbound on I-69. The officer attempted to make a stop, but the driver refused.

State police and IMPD officers joined in the attempt to stop the vehicle as it proceeded onto I-465 South. The male driver eventually stopped near the Shadeland Avenue exit and eventually surrendered without further incident.

The elderly woman was checked out by medical personnel and was not harmed.
