Fishers High School football coach reinstated following incident with student
Update (Sept. 23, 3016)– Fishers High School officials say Rick Wimmer will return to his teaching and coaching duties Monday, Sept. 26.
“The school district has concluded a thorough evaluation and has addressed the incident. The district appreciates the cooperation of all involved throughout this process and will have no further comment in order to protect confidentiality,” said Bev Redmond, Director of School and Community Relations for Hamilton Southeastern Schools.
FISHERS, Ind.– Fishers police provided details Monday into an incident involving a Fishers High School student and a teacher.
The school said Friday they were made aware of an incident involving Rick Wimmer and a student. Wimmer is a teacher and football coach for the school.
According to police, the incident occurred on Sept. 13. The student arrived late for a class and “verbally disagreed” when Wimmer when asked to take a seat in the back of the class. Wimmer then attempted to direct the student to the back of the room by placing his hands on the student’s shoulder and upper chest.
Fishers police said the student reacted immediately and Wimmer removed his hands. The incident is estimated to have taken place over the course of about five seconds.
Wimmer and the student then walked down to the Dean’s office where school officials and the student’s mother were notified.
Investigators determined no further action was needed by the Fishers Police Department.
On Friday, Fishers High School released the following statement:
The school district is aware of an in-class incident that occurred on Sept. 13 at Fishers High School involving teacher Rick Wimmer and a student. The school placed Mr. Wimmer on paid administrative leave and reported the incident to the Fishers Police Department. FPD has advised the district that it will not pursue any further action.

CBS4 checked with the school on Monday, who said Wimmer was still on administrative leave. No other details about his future status as a coach or teacher were released.
