AUBURN, Ind.– The DeKalb County Sheriff confirmed a second high school football player died after a crash Friday.

Lucas Oberkiser, 16, passed away Monday night around 11 p.m. His teammate, 17-year-old Derek Padilla, was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash.

The crash occurred around 4 p.m. Friday at County Road 19 and County Road 40, about six miles from the high school. Padilla was the driver and Oberkiser was a passenger.

Thousands have been raised for the boys’ funeral costs. GoFundMe pages were set up for both Oberkiser and Padilla.

After the crash, Friday night’s game was canceled. School officials say counseling will be available for students as they deal with the loss of a classmate.
