BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A bride-to-be wants people to be extra cautious, after someone stole wedding packages from right in front of her apartment door.
The theft happened in August. The woman, who didn't want to be identified for fear the thieves will return, said that she had ordered gifts for her bridesmaid and dad, as well as do-it-yourself items for her wedding.
By chance, multiple shipping vendors dropped off a total of 11 packages in one day. When she arrived home, all of the packages were gone.
"At that point, obviously (I got) sentimental and emotional. ... These are personal gifts," she said.
She reported the theft to Bloomington Police, who said that while they haven't had a rash of package thefts lately, it is not uncommon.
"We have had package theft problems before, last summer we had a plague of package thefts," Capt. Steve Kellams said.
The victim said that it must have taken multiple trips for the thief to get all of the packages, or multiple people. She's hoping to encourage apartment buildings to provide lock boxes or protection from theft.
She also had some advice, particularly for students who just returned to school and are not doubt ordering textbooks or other items online.
"If you’re not going to be at home, I would definitely recommend going to whoever your delivery carrier is and having the packages either held at the office or change the delivery time," she said.
