Police investigate 6 shootings just hours apart across Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Police are investigating a series of shootings across the Indianapolis area that left one person dead and five others wounded.

The first shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the 4000 block of Cass Court. Keith Freeman Jr., 38, died after being shot during an argument with his father, Keith Freeman Sr., 63.

The two argued; the elder Freeman retrieved a gun and the two struggled over the weapon, police said, causing it to go off. Keith Freeman Jr. died from his wounds. Police arrested his father on a count of reckless homicide.

Short after 10 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan police were dispatched to the 500 block of Narrow Brook Drive on the east side. They found a 17-year-old male had been shot in the calf. Police were looking for a pair of suspects in that case.

At 10:30 p.m., police were called to the 7400 block of Whipporwill Drive at the Waterside at Castleton apartment complex. A man in his 20s suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and went to St. Vincent in critical condition.

At 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Jefferson Avenue to a fourth shooting. In that case, a man was shot in the groin and went to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Speedway police officers arrived in the 6400 block of Consulate Court around 1 a.m. after a report of shots fired in the area. They found a man suffering from a gunshot wound; another man suffered another type of injury. Both went to an area hospital.

Around the same time, IMPD officers were on the scene of the sixth shooting since Thursday night. Police found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police continue to investigate the shootings and ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
