Police search for suspect after armed robbery prompts alert at Indiana University

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Officials at Indiana University in Bloomington sent an alert to students and staff Friday morning after an armed robbery near campus.

Students were told to seek shelter, lock the doors and wait for the all clear. According to the alert, a person with a gun was spotted near 12th and Indiana at the Village Pantry.

Police said a woman entered the Village Pantry with a handgun and then headed toward campus. The robbery happened around 5:30 a.m. Surveillance video released of the robbery showed a woman dressed in black carrying a handgun. Anyone with information about the case should call 911 or (812) 339-4477.

Shortly before 6:40 a.m., the school provided an update that said the threat was “no longer imminent.” The school said everyone could resume their normal routine and asked them to remain vigilant.

A subject with a handgun has been reported close to the Bloomington campus near 12th and Indiana at the Village Pantry. If you are on campus, trust your instincts and take safe shelter in the nearest available room. Lock the door if possible. Remain in place until the police or a campus administrator known to you gives the ALL CLEAR. Call 911 if you have information about the armed person. If you are not on campus, stay away. Follow instructions from university officials or local authorities.

And here’s the alert posted later in the morning:

IU Bloomington Update: Investigation is on-going. Threat is no longer imminent. Resume normal routine but remain vigilant. Call 9 1 1 with additional information. See emergency.iu.edu for updates.
