INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Two IMPD narcotics investigations this week took drugs, money and guns off the streets and landed six people behind bars.

Officers say reorganization, a dedication to reducing crime, reducing the fear of crime, enhancing public safety and community involvement were all a part of these successful investigations.

“I think it’s significant for residents to see this type of enforcement action and this level of enforcement in their neighborhoods right now," said Sergeant Josh Barker outside IMPD North District.

Police say the first bust happened Wednesday at a home in the 1900 block of Bellefontaine Street. North and East District Narcotics Investigators converged on the home to find the doors heavily barricaded. SWAT officers were called in to make entry. Inside, police found six grams of cocaine, a shotgun, marijuana and $489 in cash.

Five people were arrested including 53-year-old Vincent Tucker who was taken to jail for dealing and possession of cocaine with a firearm, along with other charges.

The second bust was the following day. On Thursday, 34-year-old Devan Pierson was arrested after police found cocaine, heroin and meth inside an apartment here in the 3800 block of Whittier Place. Two handguns, drug making and dealing items along with nearly $500 in cash were also seized.

Sergeant Barker says these busts were significant and were simply routine investigations that had community involvement.

“People that are willing to step forward from the community to tell us where the problems are and what’s happening in their neighborhood," he said.

Barker says bringing narcotics investigators back to the districts has made a significant difference in a short period of time. Since June,  North District narcotics investigators have served more than 14 search warrants, recovered over 20 handguns and firearms from the street, have seized over $25,000 in drug money various vehicles and illegal drugs.

“We are here working for the community to make sure that drug dealers, guns and specific people, places and activities are being addressed in a responsible manner," Barker said.

Devan Pierson who was arrested on Whittier Place faces at least eight felony drug charges. He is also currently on parole for a federal drug dealing conviction in 2007.
