INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- More Hoosiers than ever are reporting scam calls, but help could be on the way.

Already this year, more than 10,000 complaints have been filed with the Indiana Attorney General's office. That's on track to double the amount of complaints last year, according to Attorney General Greg Zoeller.

"It’s almost out of hand," Zoeller said.

It's not just landlines, either. More than ever, people's cell phones are receiving robocalls and scams.

"I think your cell phone these days is probably just as vulnerable as your old home number," tech expert and founder of Noobie.com, Patric Welch, said.

Welch said it doesn't hurt to try apps that use crowd sourcing to identify scam callers, or other strategies.

More technology could be rolling out, too. Google just unveiled its own spam call protection on Nexus and Android One phones.

"Everybody’s looking for an edge when it comes to something they can do on their phone to make life easier (and) make things easier for you," Welch said.

"It’s technology that’s gotten us into this problem and I think technology is close to getting us out of it," Zoeller said.

Zoeller said that while scammers don't abide by the Do Not Call list, it does still stop you from getting local calls. You should also report scam calls at Indianaconsumer.com.
