INDIANAPOLIS – Police are investigating after they say suspects used a car to crash into a Castleton store and steal almost a dozen guns.

Officers responded to a business alarm at the Gander Mountain store in the 5700 block of East 86th Street around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police say they believe four suspects used a truck to ram into a loading dock door and gain access inside the store. Once inside, they say the thieves stole 11 long guns.

“IMPD had an unbelievable response to the incident. They were here in 3 minutes and the guys were in and out with 11 guns,” says ATF agent Patrick Hand.

ATF agents say the guns are worth around $25,000 in retail value and could be worth even more on the street.

“The gun crime in Indianapolis right now is always a concern and now having these additional eleven weapons out there right now that are unaccounted for just adds to that concern,” says Hand.

After canvassing the area throughout the morning, officers eventually found a black truck in near-by parking lot, just north of the Gander Mountain store. Officials say they believe that truck may have been used in the smash and grab, and say the suspect may have backed it up into the loading dock door.

In the past several weeks, authorities across the country have uncovered plots to use stolen guns to kill officers and in the wake of recent attacks in Dallas and Baton Rouge, local law enforcement is not taking any chances.

“It is a concern for law enforcement, it is a concern for the community. These guns are being illegally possessed by someone who committed a crime and that is a concern for any of us,” says IMPD Sgt. Kendale Adams.

No injuries were reported. Police have been reviewing surveillance footage. The ATF and IMPD are hoping the video will lead to a big break in the case and federal charges for the thieves.

The ATF is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to arrests and convictions of the suspects. Anyone with information about this burglary is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
