LIVE BLOG: Day 2 at the 2016 Republican National Convention
CLEVELAND, OH – Tuesday is a big day at the Republican National Convention – Donald Trump will officially become the Republican nominee, dropping the presumptive title.
Around 5:30 p.m. each state will announce how their delegation will vote. Since Trump secured enough delegates through the primaries and caucuses the past five months, he’s already sealed the deal.
That also means Indiana Governor Mike Pence will officially become the Republican vice presidential nominee.
The official theme for the convention today is “Make America Work Again.” The speakers will focus on creating jobs and economic growth with headliners U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Governor Chris Christie, Tiffany Trump, Kerry Woolard, Donald Trump, Jr., U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (WV), Ben Carson and Kimberlin Brown.
As you can imagine, there are plenty of people talking about the Republican National Convention on social media. Today we talked with several people who study social media trends.
Peter Eskew, a social media expert with Zigna Labs, a company that analyzes media platforms, explained how trends across social media are important to monitor during major national events like the RNC.
Eskew spoke with our James Gherardi, about a spike in discussion about the RNC across all media platforms on Monday night. He attributed the spike to the discussion about Melania Trump and accusations that she plagiarized a portion of her convention speech from First Lady Michelle Obama's 2008 DNC speech. Eskew explained how the spike was monitored through multiple criteria, such as geography, gender, and social media platform.
