Near west side shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives are investigating after a double shooting left one person dead Friday night.

Officers were called to the 400 block of North Exeter Avenue near West Wilcox Street  on the near west side just before 11 p.m. for a possible burglary in progress.

As officers were responding, they say the call was upgraded to a possible person shot.

When they arrived on scene, police say they found the front door to a house open, and entered the residence for a welfare check.

According to police officials, officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the second was transported to Eseknazi Hospital.

While completing the sweep of the residence, investigators say they found possible witnesses, some of whom were children.
