Howard County Sheriff warning residents of phone scam asking for card information
HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. – The Howard County Sheriff’s Office wants citizens to be aware of a phone scam, in which a caller poses as a sergeant and asks for credit card information.
The Howard County Dispatch Center received several complaints about the scam Thursday.
Victims say the caller identifies themselves as Sgt. Jordan Buckley from the Howard County Sheriff’s Department. The caller then states there is an arrest warrant for the potential victim and directs them to provide credit card information and other personal information, or purchase pre-paid debit cards to pay a bond to avoid arrest.
The Howard County Sheriff’s Office does not use these methods to receive cash bond for criminal arrests.
Howard County residents who receive one of these calls should contact the dispatch center at 457-1105.
