Kenny Chesney calls officer to apologize for saying he was dead, offers to take him to football game

FOLCROFT, Pa. – Country music star Kenny Chesney realized he made a mistake and did everything he could to make up for it.

During a recent concert in Philadelphia, Chesney announced to the crowd that Officer Christopher Dorman of the Folcroft Police Department had died. Dorman was shot seven times while responding to a reported drug deal on Friday. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Before the shooting happened, Dorman had planned to attend Chesney’s concert. He made a video from his hospital bed urging Chesney not to forget about him.

During his Saturday night concert at Lincoln Financial Field, Chesney said he got “caught up in the moment” and misspoke when he told fans that Dorman had passed away.

“I think the emotions got the best of me, and I wasn’t as clear as I could’ve been,” Chesney told Philly.com. “The idea that a hero like that, with seven bullets in him, would even think about me. . . . I heard about it right before I hit the stage, and it stopped me in my tracks.”

After realizing his mistake, Chesney called Dorman and wished him a speedy recovery. He said the officer was “doing great” and hoped to take him to an Eagles game and have beers one day.
