Five children, adult injured in north side crash

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Crews responded to a crash with multiple injuries Monday on the north side.

The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. near the intersection of East 38th Street and Central Avenue.

A 15-passenger Ford van with a driver and 14 children was involved in the crash, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department. Dora Holmes, 42, was driving the van. She was checked out at the scene and released.

Five children, ages 7, 9, 10, 13 and 14, were taken to the hospital, along with one adult. None were seriously injured. The nine remaining children were checked at the scene and released to their parents.

The van was on its way back from Edna Martin Christian Center summer camp.

According to a witness on the scene, a red Ford Taurus was travelling eastbound on 38th Street and clipped an orange Dodge Charger before rear ending the Ford van. The van then rear ended a black Ford Escape.

The driver of the red Ford Taurus was transported to Methodist Hospital in serious condition.
