INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Police spent the early hours of Wednesday investigating after a pair of suspicious packages were found in downtown Indy.

Officers first responded to the intersection of Michigan Street and Delaware Street around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Police say they located a suspicious bag on the grounds of a federal building that looked like a carry-on bag for traveling.

Police say around the same time, they received information that there was another suspicious package nearby at the intersection of Washington Street and Delaware Street. The second bag was a backpack.

The city’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team responded and determined that neither bag contained explosives.

Lt. Joe Sherrol of IMPD told CBS4 that this is standard protocol when suspicious packages are found, regardless of what events are taking place in the rest of the country.

Lt. Sherrol explained, “The EOD has their own protocol and their own high-tech equipment they use, so there’s no use in taking a chance on an unknown package.”

According to officers, there is a bus stop nearby but police do not have any suspect information.
