CROTHERSVILLE,Ind.  A Crothersville man has been arrested after his 3-year-old son wandered from his home Saturday.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Crothersville Police officers responded to a call that a child had wandered away from his home in the 6000 block of Jackson County Road 1025 East, just outside of Crothersville.

The 3-year-old boy was spotted about 1/10 of a mile from his home, wearing only a t-shirt.

Officers took the child back to his home but could not get anyone to answer the door.

The child ran back inside the residence.  At that point, officer believed the child was home alone.

Officers entered the residence and reported finding poor living conditions throughout the house as they continued to look for the person who was supposed to be watching the little boy.

An 11 year old brother was located in a bedroom on the second floor.  The brother told officers that both of them were home alone and he was unaware his younger brother had left the house.  The older boy also told officers they had no phone that he could call any adults who lived there.

As officers continued to check the residence, they came across the father of the boys asleep on the third floor.

49-year-old Raymond Davis III had to be awakened by officers.  He told police he did not know he had been left to watch his sons  after the grandparents had left.

Mr. Davis also told police he was not aware the 3-year-old had wandered off and had been gone for nearly an hour, wearing only a t-shirt.

Officers arrested Davis for neglect of a dependent and is being held without bond in the Jackson County Jail.
