STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — Authorities in Georgia say officers responded to the wrong house during an investigation and shot the homeowner in the neck.

According to CBS46, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday near Stockbridge.

Three officers responded to a 911 call on a report of gunshots and a female yelling for help.

When the officers arrived they were met by William Powell, 63. Powell was armed with a handgun, and when officers told him to drop his gun, he didn’t comply. Powell was shot by one of the officers in the neck. He was transported to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries, and he is in critical condition.

However, Powell had nothing to do with the original 911 call, and the GBI confirms Henry County PD responded to wrong address.

Investigators did eventually find the house where the woman was screaming, but it was just an argument and there were no shots fired.

A neighbor told CBS46 that Powell heard commotion around 1:30 am and stepped out his garage door to investigate. That’s when the officers shot him.

The officer who shot Powell is on administrative leave.
