MUNCIE, Ind. – A Muncie mom survived a drug overdose earlier this week but now faces child neglect charges because her three children were at home when it happened, police say.

According to court documents, emergency responders were called to the 1400 block of West 14th Street Tuesday afternoon in response to a reported drug overdose. Firefighters began administering oxygen to the woman, who was breathing and had a pulse. Police identified her as Emily Marie Jamison, 31.

Jamison’s mother told investigators she’d come by to take her daughter to an appointment; her 4-year-old grandson told her that “Mommy was asleep on the kitchen floor,” court documents said.

The woman had her grandson unlock the door, found Jamison unconscious and called 911. Jamison’s three children, who range in age from 9 months to 4 years old, were also inside the apartment.

The officer found two syringes in the apartment and disposed of them, court documents said, along with a spoon that had residue on it. The charging documents didn’t say which substance Jamison had taken.

Jamison eventually regained consciousness and went to Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital before being taken to the Delaware County Jail. She’s preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent.
