MUNCIE, Ind. – A Muncie man was arrested Tuesday night after police say he strangled his girlfriend during an argument over not making dinner.

Police were dispatched to the 2600 block of East Rainbow Lane, where they spoke to the victim. The woman told police she had just been arguing with her boyfriend of seven years, Daniel Hunkins, inside their home in the 3800 block of North Harvest Lane.

She told officers that Hunkins grabbed a nearby phone charger cord and wrapped it around her neck, while she was turned away. She says Hunkins held the cord there until she was about to pass out, then let go.

The woman then fled the home with her 7-year-old son who was in another room, according to police. While leaving, the woman says Hunkins threatened to kill her if she told police what happened.

While talking to the woman, police say they noticed a red line and bruises around her neck. She was also crying and having a hard time swallowing, according to the report.

Officers confronted Hunkins at the home where the incident took place and placed him under arrest at the door. While being put in a police cruiser, officers say Hunkins refused to answer what his date of birth was.

Hunkins was transported to jail, where he was charged with strangulation, domestic battery, intimidation and refusal to identify.
