INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - More than 30,000 people are registered for the 500 Festival Mini Marathon in Indianapolis. Runners are preparing to run 13.1 miles around the Circle City and the Mini Marathon Expo is in full swing.

Organizers say the high registration numbers indicate the Indianapolis race will likely reclaim the title of largest half marathon in the country, potentially beating out events in New York, San Fransisco and Las Vegas. The title is determined based on the number of race finishers.

The Mini Marathon Expo inside the convention center downtown features more than 80 vendors and exhibits. Runners are required to stop by the expo to pick up their information packets and bibs ahead of race day.

Sabrina List, from the 500 Festival, said the medals runners will receive at the finish line celebrate the 100th running of the Indy 500, along with the 40th anniversary of the Indy Mini. The medal for the half marathon resembles the Borg-Warner trophy.

List also said runners should keep in mind a few changes to the race day schedule.

"The biggest change is that we have new start times," she said. "The 5K will start at 7 a.m., that’s 15 minutes earlier than in the past."
