Daleville Community Schools custodian fired after allegations of sexual relations with student
Update (April 25, 2016)– Daleville Community Schools voted to fire Brady Milam Monday at a board meeting. The vote was unanimous.
DALEVILLE, Ind. (April 19, 2016)– A Daleville Community Schools custodial staff member was arrested Monday, accused of having sexual relations with a 14-year-old student.
School officials contacted police around 1:30 p.m. Monday to report the allegations after seeing an exchange of notes. Brady Milam, 41, was questioned by police and allegedly admitted to having sex with the student at the high school on Saturday, April 16.
The 14-year-old victim told police she and Milam went on a nature trail walk and then he drove her to the school on Saturday.
“We actually have video from the school that shows the 14-year-old victim standing outside the front doors, him entering through the back doors and him walking and letting her in and then actually going inside the closet,” explains Chief James King, with the Daleville Police Department.
Investigators believe the notes, text and Facebook messages had been going on for a few weeks. Now detectives are looking into the possibility that Milam could have been involved with another 14-year-old student.
“He was actually sending notes to both of them, the way it looks, trying to get a relationship with either one of them or possibly both,” explains Chief King.
Within hours of getting the initial report, Milam was arrested.
“If you know things like this are going on inside your school, I mean, you need to step up and say something to somebody,” explains Chief King.
Superintendent Paul Garrison has dealt with several personnel issues in his 41 years with the Daleville Community Schools district, but never anything close to this case.
“I am angry but I’m also just shocked and devastated and disappointed. We hire employees here with an understanding that we are adopting them into a family and we have kids and we are all here to protect them and to have a betrayal of that it hurts,” explains Paul Garrison, Daleville Community Schools Superintendent.
A note was sent out to parents informing them of the situation. Milam has been placed on unpaid administrative leave. He’s been employed with the school for about two years. No one answered when CBS 4 went to Milam’s home.
Milam faces child molestation and sexual misconduct with a minor charges. Police do anticipate more charges to be filed.
