INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 15, 2016) – The Indianapolis Fire Department says a 90-year-old woman died after being rescued from a house fire on the east side Friday.

A 68-year-old woman was critically injured in the fire as well. Neighbors told investigators the women are mother and daughter.

Thirteen IFD units were dispatched to the home on Parkview Avenue around 1:45 p.m.

Officials say firefighters brought out the 90-year-old, while the 68-year-old walked out on her own. They were transported to Eskenazi Hospital.

Four cats died in the fire, but firefighters were able to save a cat and a kitten by giving them oxygen.

The damage to the house is estimated at $50,000.

This is the first fatality in the IFD service district for 2016. The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation.
