COLUMBUS, Ind. (April 7, 2016) – A new Chick-fil-A store opened in Columbus Thursday, and that means free meals for a year for 100 customers!

The restaurant officially opened at 6 a.m. The first one hundred people in line get one free meal a week for the whole year. Some of them started camping out at 6 a.m. Wednesday, braving windy conditions throughout the day and night.

“It’s really fun that they get to do this. We played a lot of games and we fed them three times and gave them a snack last night as well, and I’m sure they’re tired but I’m very impressed and humbled to be a part of the Columbus community today,” said Terry Carrico, the store’s owner.

It’s taken years for Columbus to get its own Chick-fil-A.

“I am here because I have been praying and dreaming for a Chick-fil-A in Columbus, Indiana, for almost three years,” said Tyler Tolbert, a Columbus resident who will work at the restaurant. “I wanted to come here to congratulate everyone who goes through because they braved the cold and braved the rain and I’m just so excited.”

“(This is) a one-time experience,” said Chad Pruitt, a Columbus resident who endured the storm and winds. “I love what Chick-fil-A stands for, I love their food and this only happens one time in Columbus so how could I miss it?”

The restaurant is bringing about 80 new jobs to the area. During Thursday’s opening, crews will also collect books for “Books Express,” a program that benefits Bartholomew County Schools.
