LAFAYETTE, Ind. (April 5, 2016) — Lafayette police say an evacuation was ordered after officers found a pipe bomb in an apartment while responding to a domestic battery complaint.

Lafayette Sergeant B.T. Brown says police responded to the 3600 block of Chauncey Court East for a domestic battery complaint on Monday around 1 p.m.

A woman told officers she had been beaten up by Armando Guzman Jr., 42. Guzman lived in the apartment with her, but he fled the scene before police arrived.

Residents at the apartment building called police around 3:20 p.m. and reported that Guzman had returned to the apartment. Officers found Guzman, and he was arrested for domestic battery, confinement, and intimidation.

Police obtained a search warrant for the apartment, and during the search officers found a pipe bomb.

The apartment building was evacuated. The Tippecanoe County Bomb Squad was called and the bomb was diffused at about 10 p.m. Residents were allowed to return to their homes around 10:30 p.m.

No charges have been filed in connection with the bomb at this time. There were no injuries.
