PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (March 28, 2016) – The Luck of the Irish ran out on Easter Sunday.

Notre Dame’s season is over after an 88-74 loss to North Carolina in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament.

“It’s really tough,” said Irish guard Demetrius Jackson after the game. “We gave good effort. We tip our hat to them because they’re a great team.”

“(We gave up) too many easy buckets,” added Matt Farrell. “That’s a great team. We showed some signs of life, but it didn’t work out.”

Notre Dame looked to be in great shape about seven minutes into the second half, just wrapping up a 12-0 run to take a 52-51 lead, but it was short lived. UNC responded with a 10-0 run of their own and never trailed again.

“We were in great position,” said Steve Vasturia. “That’s something we’ve been in all season long, you take a lead and kind of finish off a team, but they came right back at us.”

“We made a run and they weathered the storm,” added Jackson.

It’s the second year in a row Notre Dame’s season comes to an end in the national quarterfinals.
