Motorcycle ride to benefit the family of fallen Deputy Koontz this weekend
HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (March 24, 2016) — Members of the Howard County Sheriff’s Department are helping to organize a police escorted motorcycle ride this weekend to benefit the family of fallen Deputy Carl Koontz.
Deputy Koontz was shot and killed March 20 while serving a warrant in Russiaville. Sergeant Jordan Buckley was also wounded in the incident, but he is expected to make a full recovery. Deputy Koontz leaves behind his wife Cassandra, and his 8-month-old son Noah.
Participating in the ride costs $5. That money will go directly to Koontz’s family.
Registration for the event begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Grissom Air Museum at 1000 West Hoosier Boulevard in Peru, Indiana. The group will leave from there at 2 p.m. and travel to the Howard County Sheriff’s Department in Kokomo.
Participants are asked to bring a rose or a flower to place on the memorial at the sheriff’s department.
All styles and types of motorcycles are welcome during the ride.
