BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (March 21, 2016) – A truck driver suffered minor abrasions after crashing a semi truck loaded with Pop-Tarts late Sunday night in Bartholomew County.

The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. Sunday on southbound I-65 near the 57 mile marker. Deputies from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find an overturned semi blocking the left lane of the interstate. The trailer was off in the median.

The driver, Ross Liechtenstein, 47, Chicago, was trapped in the cab and needed to be extricated by the Columbus Fire Department. Liechtenstein told police he drifted onto the shoulder and drove over some rumble strips. He then steered sharply to the left and into the median.

He wasn’t able to regain control of the truck, which flipped as he tried to get back on the road. The left lane of I-65 southbound was closed for more than three hours after the crash, although traffic was able to get through on the right lane.

The truck was loaded with 27,000 pounds of Pop-Tarts, according to investigators.
