AVON, Ind. (March 21, 2016) – Police arrested a Washington Township / Avon firefighter Friday night after police say he robbed a bank in Brazil, Indiana.

According to our news gathering partners at the IndyStar, the Clay County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a robbery at First Financial Bank in the 2100 block of East National Avenue around 5:45 p.m.

Police say a man passed a teller a note demanding cash. The teller handed the suspect money, and he fled the scene.

Witnesses were able to get a description of the suspect’s vehicle, and an Indiana State Police trooper spotted the vehicle shortly after 6 p.m. in Putnam County.

The driver of the vehicle was Bryan E. Anderson, 39, of Coatesville. According to police he matched the description of the bank robbery suspect. Police say he was arrested without incident and taken to the Brazil Police Department.

Avon FD PIO Jerry Bessler says Anderson has been with the department since 2000, and he is a lieutenant. The department says they are aware of the investigation, and he’s been placed on administrative leave.
