ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (March 15, 2016)-- A man pretending to be a driver in need of help shot a Zionsville man in the leg Monday night, police said, prompting a search for the suspect.

Officers responded to the 4300 block of Creekside Pass, in the Austin Oaks subdivision, shortly after 9 p.m. Monday.

The victim told police a man came to his door and asked for a tool to fix his vehicle. He got a tool and came back to the front door, where a struggle ensued. The homeowner was shot and the suspect fled.

The victim was transported to St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital. He also suffered a cut to the head, according to Zionsville police.

“We are doing everything we possibly can to make sure the neighborhood’s safe, we have a lot of police presence in the neighborhood we’re doing everything we can to make sure there’s not still a suspect at large,” Zionsville Police Chief Robert Knox said Monday night.

Police provided new information about the suspect Tuesday morning, describing him as a black male who was 5’8” and about 160 pounds. The man wore a black jacket, police said. Investigators set up a perimeter late Monday and used K-9s to search for the suspect.

As of early Tuesday morning, police were still looking for the suspect although there was no active police perimeter.
